This article aims to contribute to the field of language learning through technology by summarizing major past and present trends in CALL theory, practice and research. Throughout the history of CALL, the main lines of research have constantly changed as the technology and ideology of language learning have improved. How CALL researchers think about language learning technology is strongly influenced by constant changes in theory and technology itself.
